We are proud to announce the creation of ESTRA – the European Alliance for Short-Term Rentals, founded by the national associations representing the sector in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and Romania.

ESTRA was created with a clear purpose: to support short-term rental owners, especially small owners, and to help build a fair, balanced, and realistic European framework for the sector.

Across Europe, short-term rental owners are facing growing pressure from overlapping rules, rising tax burdens, and compliance obligations that are often difficult, costly, and sometimes nearly impossible for small operators to follow. Yet behind this sector are thousands of ordinary owners, families, and micro-entrepreneurs who rely on short-term rentals as a legitimate source of income and who contribute to local economies, tourism, and communities.

ESTRA believes Europe needs smarter regulation, not heavier regulation. Rules should be clear, proportionate, and workable. Taxes should be fair. And policymakers must recognize the difference between large-scale commercial operators and the small property owners who are simply trying to survive in an increasingly complex environment.

Our mission is to ensure that the voice of the small owner is heard at European level, to defend a sustainable future for short-term rentals, and to promote a policy framework that protects both communities and property owners without suffocating the sector.

This is only the beginning. Together, we will work for a stronger, fairer future for short-term rentals in Europe.
